Project Structure - CSP 2012+
The objectives and research approach of the project are reflected in the project structure. The project consists of two closely interlinked Work Packages (WP).

WP1: The co-production of Climate Knowledge and Policy
By better understanding interaction between scientists and policymakers and how they influence each other, we hope to provide insights that will enable ourselves and others to contribute more effectively. We aim to develop strategies for helping decision makers and scientists to effectively create, communicate and use knowledge to improve policy.

WP2: Policy alternatives for 2012 and beyond
What are the challenges and potentials for climate policy in the long-term, and what types of knowledge are required to assist in moving the negotiations forward? We aim to identify and describe knowledge that will be needed - and by whom - to inform future climate policy. How can stakeholders become owners of this knowledge? How can scientific knowledge be more readily and effectively connected to needs and views of national and international decision-makers? These questions are central to this line of inquiry.

Vulnerability and adaptation
A common central research theme in the project is the relation between vulnerability and adaptive capacity to climate change. What knowledge and institutional arrangements are required and what factors influence the success and failure of adaptation strategies? What are the roles and interactions of different actors, institutional conditions, knowledge needs and use, in the planning and policy processes related to extreme weather events and climate change? How are societies vulnerable and sensitive to the consequences of climate change? These vulnerability and adaptation issues are closely linked to sustainable development policies and the findings will together clarify needs for adaptation strategies locally, nationally, regionally, and eventually globally.
